Elvish Staff christmas present

As promised the pictures of the prettier elvish style staff that I made for my middle sis.
I was inspired in the colors of it from World of Warcraft nightelves Moon Temple
but used the tolkien style elvish for the markings on the staff.

The hand grip part is wrapped with a soft brown suede leather strap.
The top piece is made from super sculpey with a glass gem in the top. The leaves were formed individually and added to the orb separately.

Wrapped with more suede there is cascading teal shells and a resin coin emblem accented with ink and acrylic.

The main par of the staff is bamboo that was already painted black, and then I put elvish letter painted in white and gold over the length of the staff.

The flower at the top is made with premo mixed with super sculpey. The glass bead is lined with a foil piece to help it reflect light.

A better view of the coin cast in resin. It comes out clear but then I put a teal wash over it to give it some color without making it opaque.

Closeup of the cascading shell beads. I tried for a waterfall effect in a spiral.

Necromancer Staff-hubbies christmas present

My husband has a love for gothic things, video games, and anime. For christmas I decided to make him this fun and somewhat morbid looking staff for any necromancer cosplay that he might want to do.

The base of the staff is bamboo which had already been painted black.

The grip and the top are wrapped with red leather thongs and then I bleached some chicken bones and wrapped them with the leather. I went and painted some of the chicken bones to look old and faded but left one to look new for contrast. The feather was also bleached and then painted black. I added some red ink stains at the top of the leather thong cause I thought it looked a little like blood splatter. EEEEk

The top zombie hand as i called it was sculpted by my mother for me out of super sculpey and then baked. she then painted it to enhance the old petrified look.
The face was cast from a sculpey doll face mold but we used clear resin setting a doll eye in the forhead. This was then lightly brushed with a red ink solution so that the light would still shine through it.

Over all I think it turned out quite creepy, and my hubby absolutely loved it.
As for me I couldn't help cringing while handling it, I think we might have done to good of a job lol.

Next I'll be showing them much prettier elvish staff I did as a Christmas present for my middle sis.

Other fun things

Some of the other fun things we did this summer.

Home done glitter toe nails. I went with blue, bubbles with green, mom with pink and my younger sis Kayla in orange.

They are super simple to do yourself, and I'm not sure why they charge so much for them in the salons. Basically we put nail polish on then while its wet sprinkle the glitter liberally onto it. I did this over paper plates so that it doesn't get all over the place. Let it dry and then top coat with the clear nail polish of your choice. I did two coats of the clear and mine staid on for over a month without chipping. The glitter I got at Michaels in a variety pack that had little packets of 10 or more colors for a few bucks.

Bubbles learned how to sew. She was a super quick study and caught on way faster then I ever did. This is her working on the pieces to make her own little patchwork blanket out of some fleece I had that she kept stealing to snuggle because it was so soft.

You can see how she alternated with a regular fleece in teal Tye Dye
and super fluffy white fleece.
This white fleece is super soft, and what I used to make sheep eared winter hats.

I also played with sculpey. This is a key and heart lock pendant I made for my sister Seanna. She collects old looking keys and is almost fanatical about them. It's made with super sculpey which I prefer because it bakes a little stronger and has a smoother texture then regular sculpey. I often mix it with some Premo so that it is even firmer. I then primed them black and did a dry brush layered technique using teal (her favorite color) and some metallic green acrylics. All on a piece of sheer black ribbon.
(If anyone is interested let me know and I can make some similar pendants to go in the etsy shop)

Then my sister Kayla really had a blast doing Henna art for us. (we have a whole family of artists lol) This was an awesome one she did on my back. It was inspired by my name (angel) and then the a&d are mine and my honeys initials with hearts. I really loved how it turned out.

This was her second piece that she did all free handed. Its what she refers to as a "tramp stamp" which is on the lower back above the buttocks. I just wanted something pretty and maybe a little Victorian, and she nailed it right on the head. Love the little heart accents.

Next post expect more sewing and fun birthday cake!

Unicorn Horn Prototype

This is a unicorn horn prototype I'm developing.
It was sculpted from super sculpey and then painted with acrylics.
I used a drybrush technique to make the horn look like real bone. Then did a light shimmery wash over the top.
It is then sealed with a imitation glass textural element and varnish.

I found that the unicorn horn stands too high to be used with a barrette so was instead attached to a white elastic headband. This held it much better.

More Hearthstone pendants

Here is the hearth pendant I made for myself. My sister wire wrapped it for me and then I strung it on a black leather cord.

I like how the wire wrap looks on these although it does give it a much more feminine look.
So for my little bro i did the more traditional loop for his.

Warcraft Hearth stone necklaces

So I'm a huge world of Warcraft fan and geek. I looked around and saw people doing hearthstone necklaces but many of them didn't actually look like stone to me.

So I created these. The stone carved looking pendants but are lighter weight then stone, and the carved designs glow in the dark. All strung on a soft leather strand. I tried it out with varied tinted colors in the stone.

The color differences are subtle but pretty. Top left is slightly blue, the one below it is regular stone color, top right is slightly green (for poison) and bottom right is slightly purple.
These ones were made for my family.

So almost my whole family plays world of warcraft with me except my youngest sister. So I made her a rogue pendant (top right) since she likes to play rogues both in dungeons and dragons as well as warcraft. Where the rest of us have hearthstones set for home. I'm planning on making more of the hearthstone pendants for selling on my etsy. These ones I'll probably be painting the names of popular cities in WoW that people usually use as their hearthstone home. For example Darnassus, Shattrath, Ogrimmar, and Stormwind. I haven't been able to get a good picture of how they glow in the dark but I'll keep trying since it's super cool!

WIP Elf BJD in sculpey

So currently I'm working on making my own ball jointed doll in sculpey.
It really was the first time I've tried sculpting anything that wasn't bowl shaped and even though proportionally quite off I think she's turning out rather cute.

I especially love her ears and face. I wanted a smaller elf doll. When doing my research I found most ball joint dolls are humongous where I wanted something smaller and cute. Hardest part I'm having right now is stringing the legs up through and finding a good hook for them to attach to the head.

I'm using super sculpey which I'm loving how it looks although there is tons of sanding to get it where I like. The hair is finely separated strands of embroidery floss. I couldn't find doll hair even close to the green I wanted for her sylvan hair. When she is finished I'll be making her a spouse a cute fey man to frolic with her. I'm thinking of giving him a cute leaf hat and wheat gold hair.
